After weeks of controversies and politicking, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,
was finally granted senatorial audience to be screened as a ministerial nominee by Senators.
However, the Senate is currently enmeshed in heated controversy as the PDP Senators said its caucus had agreed not to ask Amaechi questions throughout the screening. This development follows a point of order by the Senate minority leader, Senator Goodswill Akpabio.
According to Akpabio, the PDP Senators took the decision because the allegation of corruption against the nominee is still pending in court.
The statement which resulted into an uproar, was later resolved after Akpabio retracted the statement, which was reiterated by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
