Lassa Fever Strikes Rivers State, 2 Confirmed Dead

Barely a day after some residents of Taraba state fell victim to the Lassa fever outbreak,Rivers state  government on Tuesday, confirmed the invasion of the fever in the state killing two People.


The Rivers state commissioner for health, Dr Theophilus Odageme confirmed the outbreak in a statement.

He however instructed members of the Public to keep calm as the state government has taken proactive measures to curtail the outbreak. Members of the Public have also been urged to report any related symptom (s) such as persistent high fever, stooling,  vomitting as well as bleeding from the nose, mouth and anus.

Members of the Public were also advised to maintain good hygiene and report any case of the fever to the nearest health centre or hospital for urgent treatment.

Lassa fever got its name and description in 1969 from the town of Lassa in Borno state,Nigeria.
