Merciless Kerber PUNISH Serena Williams To Win Australian Open

MELBOURNE-Seventh seed Angelique Kerber of Germany stunned top-seeded Serena Williams, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to win her first grand slam title in the Australian Open women’s final on Saturday.

The defeat stalled Williams' ambition of equaling  Steffi Graf's record as the Open-era leader in major singles titles with 22.

28-year old Kerber, who just marked her 14th year as a pro, was appearing in her first major final and there was no better moment for her than the shocking victory over favourite,Serena Williams. she is also the first German to win a major singles title since Steffi Graf at the 1999 French Open.

An emotional Kerber said she got motivated by Steffi Graf, her tennis Idol who encouraged her and said she possessed all the physical tools to beat the top players.
“She taught me actually that I’m on a good way and try to believe in myself,” said Kerber.
