The Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja in its ruling, today, nullified the April 11 governorship election in Akwa Ibom state. The court stated that the election did not conform to the electoral act.
The lead judgment was delivered by Justice Adefunke Okojie who stated that the Akwa Ibom state Governorship Election Tribunal made an erred in its judgment when it voided election results from only 18 Local Government Areas in the state.
The Appeal court also, voided the certificate of return that was issued to Gov. Emmanuel Udom by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Five-man Panel of Justices of the appellate court has ordered for a fresh governorship election to be conducted in the state in the state in 90 days.
