In a bid to investigate and resolve the controversies surrounding the clash between the Nigerian army and members of the Shiite Islamic group, the Chief of staff, Nigerian Army, Major General Tukur Buratai has been summoned to face the Nigerian Senate and the Federal House of Representatives, over the alleged killings of several Shiite members during last week’s clash in Zaria, Kaduna state.
Top leaders as well as other stakeholders of the Islamic group would also face the house to state their account of the clash that resulted in the death of some Shiite members killed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army. .Nigerian Bulletin reports.
“The Chief of Army Staff will have to come and testify before the committee as an important stakeholder. The committee has the mandate of the House to invite him. The DG, as well as the DSS too, is relevant to this investigation.
“The committee would hear from Buratai, Zakzaky and his key followers on the issue. A date has not been fixed for this but the committee is working to round up their assignment in two weeks.
“It will involve heads of other security agencies since the committee will be looking at the security implications or otherwise of the clash. The leaders of the Islamic Movement will also have to come and state their side of the matter before the committee can reach any reasonable conclusions,” The report stated.
