Bayelsa Poll:Corps Members Missing,Trapped In Troubled Areas

As a result of the violence and attacks in some areas especially Southern Ijaw, that marred the Bayelsa governorship poll, Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members that served as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff are reportedly trapped in some troubled areas in the state.

Security agencies are still making spirited efforts to retrieve the corps members from the volatile areas while the whereabouts of some of the NYSC members are still unknown. New Telegraph reports 
“As we speak, we are in the process of working with community leaders and other partners to identify and retrieve youth corps members who were put in danger for no fault of theirs". A security source said.
The information was also confirmed by Governor Dickson last night while speaking with journalists.
Addressing newsmen in Yenagoa , Governor Dickson expressed regret over the killings and abduction of INEC’s ad hoc staff and corps members in Southern Ijaw area of the state.
“I like to use this opportunity to also commend them, these young wonderful Nigerians who came here to serve their fatherland. I want to assure them and all stakeholders who will participate in the rescheduled election and other activities that Bayelsa will continue to be home to them. The government of Bayelsa appreciates their sacrifice and will continue to partner with them to make our nation a better place,” Dickson said.
The election in Southern ijaw has been cancelled by the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC), rendering it inconclusive.
