Bayelsa-The Independent National electoral Commission, INEC has rescheduled the governorship election in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state. The election will now hold tomorrow (Sunday).
Professor Mustapha Leki made the announcement at the INEC headquaters in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He did not give any particular reason for the postponement but from indications, some hitches witnessed in the area of which malfunctioning of card readers is one appears to be one of the reasons for the postponement. Another possible reason is the reported cases of violence in some polling units.
Timipre Marlin Sylva, a former governor of the state representing the All Progressive Congress, APC and Henry Seriake Dickson the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, flagbearer/incumbent governor of the state are the major contenders in the governorship race.
The latest development means the final result of the election would be declared much later on Sunday after the rescheduled election.
