The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed all agencies capturing and processing the bio metrics of Nigerians to urgently aggregate their records so as to provide a unique identity for each citizen. News Telegraph reports.
Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Alhaji Aliyu Aziz, revealed thisstatement to State House Correspondents after a meeting with Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.
He said that the vice president gave the presidential marching order to the agencies in charge of bio metrics at the meeting.
According to the director general, all the agencies that are in charge of capturing bio metrics have been directed to aggregate all the data bases and subsequently give every Nigerian and legally resident persons a unique identification.
Alhaji Aziz also explained that such unique identification number would allow every person to have a single identity and can be easily traced and also,reliable in times of emergencies.
“The number will also make it easy for government to reach the citizen with certain benefits that would soon be provided.
Through the identification number, everyone will get his/her own share’’ He added.
