The final judgment on the appeal filed by the General Overseer (G.O) of Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Reverend King, challenging the judgment of a Lagos High Court which sentenced him to death by hanging has been fixed for February 26, 2016.

The adjournment was fixed by Justice Walter Onoghen after series of arguments from counsel to prosecution and defence in the matter.

Reverend King was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder. He pleaded not guilty to the allegation but got sentenced to death by hanging on January 11, 2007 over the murder of one of his church members, Ann Uzoh.

The Lagos State Government accused him of pouring petrol on Uzoh and five other persons on July 20,2006 resulting in her death 11 days later (August 2,2006).

Reverend King, dissatisfied with the high court ruling, challenged the verdict before the Court of Appeal in Lagos, but the appeal was thrown out and conviction affirmed by Justice Fatimo Akinbami.
He thereafter, registered his dissatisfaction and approached the Supreme Court with an urge that his judgment be upturned.
Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, who appeared before the Supreme Court alongside the Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs Idowu Alakija and other Senior Counsel in the State, urged the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower courts.
The Apex court has adjourned the case and will resume on February 26, 2016.
