“They have now been reduced to that.”
“Boko Haram is an organised fighting force, I assure you, (Despite that) we have dealt with them.” He stated.
Waving aside skepticism and negative reports berating the Army's success, the President said, “They cannot now marshal forces and attack towns or attack military installations and so on as they did before. He said.
“I don’t think this is mad talking.” He added.
Buhari also said that the terrorists had chased out of Adamawa and Yobe states and remained a force only in Borno state.
He said the secret behind the recent success is the re-organisation and re-equipping of the military as well as training received from the British, the American and the French counterparts.
Confirming the report to newsmen, the Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture,Lai Mohammed said the Nigerian Army has met the December 31 deadline given by the President to end the Boko haram insurgency.
"The Nigerian Military have so degraded the capability of Boko Haram that the terrorists can no longer carry out any spectacular attacks. Remember, gentlemen that at the height of the war, Boko Haram controlled 20 of the 27 local governments in Borno" he said.
"I can hear you saying to yourself: But the terrorists are still carrying out suicide bombings and killing people. My response to that is that such is the nature of insurgency anywhere. Unlike a war between two armies, an insurgency never ends with an armistice. Even in countries like Columbia where insurgency was supposed to have ended decades ago, attacks still happen. he added.
